    Guarda: The Storybook Start
The trip begins with two nights in a tiny 17th-century village — the town that inspired Switzerland's favorite children's book. Day one's run is a loop up the valley to a mountain hut below Piz Buin, right on the crest of the Austrian border.

The essentials

The facts

  • Open to runners of all fitness levels. All routes have shorter options, there are no pace requirements, and days are adapted for different abilities.
  • All-inclusive: accommodations, meals, and ground transportation for the whole trip. Exclusive of flights, insurance, and alcohol.
  • Most guests will sign up solo. Single rooms are available.
  • The trip is limited to only 16 spots.
  • Hosted by Dylan Bowman, the Freetrail team, certified Rogue Expeditions guides, and local staff.

You'll love it if

  • You can comfortably cover 10 miles with 2,500–3,000 ft of vert on trail, at whatever pace that takes you.
  • You'd rather stop for pie than win a Strava segment.
  • You've never been to the Alps. Or you have, and want to run a quieter but equally impressive corner of them.
  • You like a hotel with a family name on the door and a spa downstairs.
