In the Engadine and Vals valleys of Graubünden, where storybook villages sit beneath 3,000-meter peaks, every run threads through some of the Alps’ most storied terrain.
Here, in a region where glacial trails climb toward Piz Bernina and Piz Buin and lead down into villages that have changed little in a century, you’ll push into high alpine passes before recovering in family-run hotels and one of the world’s most celebrated thermal spas.
Welcome to Switzerland! We’ll gather in Zurich before setting off on a scenic transfer into the mountains, with a stop along the way to stretch your legs. Arriving in the fairy-tale village of Guarda, we’ll get settled into a family-run hotel housed in a beautifully preserved 17th-century Engadine building that’s welcomed guests since 1893. We’ll gather for a welcome toast and briefing on the week ahead before sitting down to dinner.
After a Swiss breakfast buffet, we’ll run out the front door and immediately start climbing into a high alpine valley beneath Piz Buin — the peak distinguishing the border between Switzerland and Austria.
There’s a stop for coffee and dessert at the Chamonna Tuoi, a CAS mountain hut tucked at the valley’s end, before the group floats back down to Guarda on what we’re sure will be the most enjoyable trails you’ve ever run in the mountains! The afternoon is yours to explore the village and hotel, with a three-course dinner served back at our hotel.
We’ll check out of our hotel and drive to today’s run start, a scenic and winding ride that sets the tone for the day ahead. A shakeout run along the Inn River will help with easing into all of the high-value miles we have for you the rest of the week.
From there we continue on to our hotel nestled in the historic town of Pontresina, where more apéritifs await. Enjoy an evening on your own along Pontresina’s lively Hauptstraße filled with great restaurants and cafes or choose to explore one of the nearby towns of Silvaplana or St. Moritz.
Today we get to run right out the front door again on a route with plenty of variations to suit the group — from a chairlift-assisted start that trims about half of the climbing, to shorter lollipops all around a green-pastured valley with towering peaks and glaciers in the background and along the edge of thick forests with sweeping views over the towns below. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure kind of day with no wrong choices!
After lunch on the terrace of our hotel, spend the afternoon recovering at the spa or exploring town before regrouping for dinner.
If your legs are getting tired from all the climbing, you’ll love what we have for you today! After an early breakfast and checking out of our hotel, we’ll ride the cable car up into the mountains where we’ll descend into a glacial valley with views of Piz Bernina — Graubünden’s tallest peak, which lies right between Switzerland and Italy. Stop for pie and cake at the mountain restaurant along the way before a celebratory packed lunch at the trail’s end.
From there it’s a scenic drive to the tucked-away and remote village of Vals – our final stay on this adventure.
Finish out a strong week of running in the Swiss Alps with a gentle out-and-back amongst what’s known as “The Matterhorn of Graubünden.” Go out until your’re content and turn around whenever you like.
The afternoon belongs to Therme Vals, one of the world’s most celebrated thermal baths, just a short walk from the hotel and yours to enjoy for as long as you’d like – you earned it! We’ll close out the week with dinner and an awards ceremony to celebrate the trip.
As our Swiss alps adventure comes to an end, we’ll transfer back to Zurich for your departure flights home.
I had an amazing time! The runs were all unique and very scenic with plenty of time available to take pictures and enjoy the views. I loved the isolated and cozy feel of all the places we stayed on the trip. I also really appreciated that we stayed at all the locations for two nights, as it felt more relaxing. This is my second Rogue Expeditions trip and I will definitely be back for more. Every experience is so unique and I always meet such friendly and interesting people.
Such an amazing region of the world! My recent Alpe-Adria trip was my third Rogue Expeditions adventure and it was perfect. The overall beauty of the places we drove, the choices of the individual runs, and the non-running activities couldn’t have been chosen better. Running along Lake Bohinj, rafting in the Soca River, and swimming in the Adriatic Sea were my favorites, but I loved it all. I enjoyed every moment and am already planning next year’s travel with Rogue Expeditions
Excellent trip and holiday combining my love of running in different and stimulating locations whilst enjoying post run experiences in a new country. Everything ran like clockwork, the camaraderie built through the week and of course the culinary aspect of the entire 8 days was first class to the point where one might have mistaken the package as a cultural and culinary journey with much needed beautiful running workouts the following day! Highly recommend this trip.
This was my 2nd Rogue trip. The Alpe-Adria trip was talked up before I signed on and yet it somehow still exceeded expectations- this trip was glorious! The meals are next level, views are gorgeous, the planning (including adapting plans to the inevitable unexpected occurrences) is perfect, and the fantastic company on the trip may have still been the best part. 10/10, definitely recommend.

This Switzerland run tour is designed for runners with a good level of fitness who are comfortable on technical alpine trails and elevation gain at altitude. Daily distances range from 5 to 13.2 miles, with elevation gain and loss up to roughly 3,800 ft in a single day. Shorter or less technical route options are available on most days, so you can dial in the right distance for your fitness and goals.
Elevations on this trip range from about 1,250 to 2,500 meters (4,100–8,200 ft), from our lowest home base in Vals up to the high points on our biggest running days.
Expect classic high-alpine terrain: singletrack trails, rocky and technical descents, and long, flowy stretches of double-track trails along glacial rivers and valley floors. Several routes climb above 2,000 meters, with sweeping views of Piz Buin and Piz Bernina along the way.
Your Switzerland run tour includes plenty of downtime built in: exploring the local villages, spa time in Pontresina, an afternoon at Therme Vals, and free time in each of our three home-base towns. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy local food and hospitality at family-run hotels along the way.
You’ll stay in three multi-generational, family-owned hotels, each with deep roots in their village and comfortable, well-appointed rooms.
Expect classic alpine summer conditions: warm, sunny days and cool mountain nights, with the possibility of afternoon showers or sudden weather changes at higher elevations. Layers and a rain shell are recommended.
Meals lean into Alpine and Swiss mountain cuisine, made with fresh, local ingredients — think classic dishes like rösti and capuns, alongside local cheeses and other regional specialties, all perfect fuel after a big day on the trails. Most special diets can be accommodated; please check with us in advance about any specific dietary requirements.
